John E. Eldred

John Ervin Eldred, age 79, of Berlin, died peacefully on Monday, October 22, 2018, at Patriot Place in Berlin.

He was born February 4, 1939, in the Township of Aurora, the son of Charlie and Mabel Rodencal Eldred. John was a 1957 graduate of Berlin High School and served his country in the WI National Guard. On May 14, 1960, he was united in marriage to Judith Peck at Grace English Lutheran Church in Berlin.

John was crew chief for Colon Wallace Construction and later started his own company, Eldred Construction. He built many quality homes in the Berlin area. John was an avid fisherman, snowmobiler, a dedicated member of the 6 a.m., 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. coffee clubs, and was on his scooter whenever possible.

He is survived by his wife, Judy; three daughters, Kathryn (Jay) Klemann, Cindy (Mark) Hillesheim and Peggy Sue Eserkaln; seven grandchildren, Rachel (Steve) Merema, Beth (Gabriel) Garneata, Brooke Klemann, Nathan Lashock, Nicholas Lashock, Dominic Hillesheim and Sydney Eserkaln; one great-granddaughter, Gwen Merema; brother, Loran (Kay) Eldred; nieces and nephews; Maggie his dog; and Mr. Kitty. John was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lee Eldred; nephew, Les Eldred; and his beloved dog, Buttons.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, October 29, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin. Funeral services will be held at Barbola Funeral Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Inurnment with Military Honors will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Berlin Community Scholarship Foundation and Green Lake Area Animal Shelter.
