Betty J. Delzer
Betty Jane Delzer, age 60, of Berlin, passed away on Monday, November 18, 2024, following a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, at ThedaCare Medical Center-Berlin.
She was born December 17, 1963, in Oshkosh, WI, the daughter of Paul “Chris” and Diane Lippert Delzer. Betty was a 1982 graduate of Winneconne High School. Betty attended and completed the nursing program at Fox Valley Technical College. She was the first person in her family to complete a post-secondary education.
Growing up she had a special love for horses. This lifelong passion started on her family’s horse ranch. Betty started riding at age two. She was guiding trail rides by age seven. Betty enjoyed participating in horse shows and had a special pony named Bingo that was her show buddy. She also spent much of her youth on her grandparents’ farm on Lake Poygan hunting, fishing and swimming.
She worked in a variety of RN positions over her 32-year nursing career. Most of her career was spent in the care of the geriatric population. Betty held positions in long term care, homecare, and hospice. She started her nursing career in Oshkosh at Parkview Health Care Center and Bethel Home. Betty then took a position at Markesan Resident Home, where she became Director of Nursing for 12 years. She led her nursing team to seven deficiency-free state surveys (a source of pride for her). She then held the position of Director of Nursing at Peabody Manor (ThedaCare) for five years before returning to Markesan Resident Home for her final five years of nursing. Betty enjoyed teaching new nurses and offered them ample patience and compassion. She retired in July 2022.
Betty always felt she was blessed to have the friends that she lovingly called her “tribe”. She found so much joy in the times they spent over the years and the bonds they forged. Betty had an infectious laugh and an ability to make the people in her presence feel at ease. She was a mother figure to many of her children’s friends and was always willing to lend an ear or offer the warmest of hugs.
She is survived by her three children, Dustin Delzer, Chelsea Delzer (Jared Langenhorst) and Gabrielle Delzer; one grandchild, Adeline Langenhorst; brother, Troy (Jennifer) Delzer; niece and nephew, Shyla Delzer and Mikel Delzer; and lifelong friend/sister, Lori Olson and her family. Betty was preceded in death by her mother, Diane Post (Lippert); father, Chris Delzer; and her grandparents, Albert and Beatrice Lippert and Edith and Melvin Delzer.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, December 14, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., with Rev.
