Gilbert N. Brooks
Gilbert N. Brooks, age 91, of the Town of Green Lake, died peacefully on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Markesan Resident Home. Gilbert was born February 16, 1920 in the Township of Seneca, the son of Henry and Hulda Krueger Brooks. He was a 1938 graduate of Berlin High School and a 1943 Graduate of University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Agriculture. On October 30, 1943, he was united in marriage to Janet L. Barbola in Washington, D. C. Gilbert served his country during World War II in the U. S. Marine Corps. After his discharge, he was the Superintendent of the University of Wisconsin Agricultural Experiment Station at Hancock, WI from 1946 to 1955. In 1950, He and his wife, Janet, began purchasing farms in the Town of Oasis in Waushara County. In 1968, they moved their farming operation to Green Lake& Fond du Lac Counties. Gilbertis survived by a son, Allan (Janet) Brooks of Markesan; a daughter, Marjorie Brooks (Ken Krentz) of Princeton; two grandchildren, Bradley (Amy) Brooks of Markesan; and Melissa (Paul) Schardt of Rochester, MN; six great-grandchildren, Hunter, Hannah, and Devin Brooks, and William, Lana, and Andrew Schardt; one sister, Beverly Brooks of Madison; a sister-in-law, Norma Brooks of Madison, and brother-in-law, Thomas Barbola (Del Schweder) of Marquette. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janet on December 6, 2006, and two brothers, Lynndon and Marvin. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 10 at 11:00 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church in Ripon (corner of Oshkosh St. & Mayparty Dr.), the Rev. Bryan Fritsch officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery with military honors by Wells-Krause Post #2925 V.F. W. Friends and relatives may call on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
