John L. Moriearty
John Lawrence Moriearty, age 93, of Berlin, died peacefully, with his family by his side, on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at Patriot Place in Berlin.
He was born August 9, 1927, in Berlin, WI, the son of George and Agnes Markofski Moriearty. John was a 1945 graduate of Berlin High School. He then served his country in the U.S. Navy at the end of World War II. On November 3, 1956, he was united in marriage to Nancy A. Evans. They raised their family in Berlin while John worked for the Wisconsin State Patrol, retiring as a sergeant after 33 years. In later years, John worked as an insurance adjuster for Mt. Morris Mutual Insurance Company, and helped with security at E.A.A. John and Nancy both enjoyed spending their free time traveling to the casino.
John is survived by his children, Ron (Mary) Moriearty, Loren (Laura) Moriearty and Linda (Joe) Helmuth; thirteen grandchildren, Rachel Haase (Aaron Boe), Bradley (Lakeisha) Haase, Danielle Schroeder (Josh Heinrich), Evan Schroeder, Sean (Erin) Moriearty, Patrick Moriearty, Erin Moriearty (Shilan Wooten), Stephanie (Yucen) Yin, Ryan (Alexa) Moriearty, Nathaniel Helmuth, Andrew Helmuth, Mackenzie Helmuth and Brandon Helmuth; 6 great-grandchildren, Tanis, Caden, Gabe, Evelyn, Rhyann & Sam; two sisters-in-law, Beverly Moriearty and Beverly Evans; and many nieces, nephews and his “furry friends”. John was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy, on July 1, 2017; his parents; brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 24, at 11:00 a.m., at United Methodist Church in Berlin, Rev. Larry Rieck officiating. Interment with military honors performed by Wells-Krause VFW Post #2925, will be in Welsh Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials may be directed to the Old Glory Honor Flight Program.
