John R. Hynson
John R. “Jack” Hynson, age 88, of Oshkosh, formerly of Berlin, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at The Waterford in Oshkosh.
He was born March 12, 1930, in Washington, D.C., the son of Richard and Ethel Weller Hynson. Jack was a graduate of Wilson High School in Washington, D.C., and served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. On September 27, 1952, he was united in marriage to Virginia Miller in Dubuque, IA.
Jack worked for WI Telephone Co. (Ameritech/SBC/AT&T) for 30 years, retiring in July 1992. He was a member of Wells-Krause VFW Post #2925 and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Ripon, serving several terms as Vestry.
He is survived by his two sons, John Hynson and James (Cely) Hynson; four grandchildren, Kathryn Sommers, Edward (Michele Wong) Hynson, Peter Hynson, and Michael Hynson; great-granddaughter, Brynna; son-in-law, Mark Towsley; sister-in-law, Marilyn Bisch; and many nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cheryl Towsley; brothers, Franklin Hynson and Richard Hynson; and sister, Margaret Studt.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, June 12, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin, followed by Memorial Services at 11:00 a.m., with Father Marcus Cunningham officiating. Memorials may be directed to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Ripon or Salvation Army.
