Lance L. Buchholtz
Lance Lee Buchholtz, age 64, of Poy Sippi, died peacefully on Monday, November 12, 2018, at home.
He was born August 17, 1954, in Berlin, the youngest son of Edward and Meryl Ulrich Buchholtz. Lance was a 1972 graduate of Berlin High School, attended UW-Madison and received an Associate’s degree in Law Enforcement from Moraine Park Technical College. On May 27, 1978, he was united in marriage to Julie Malzhan at Grace English Lutheran Church in Berlin.
Lance worked for Green Lake County dispatch and City of Markesan Police Department. He became Undersheriff in Green Lake County under Don Bruendl in 1991 and was elected Sheriff for eight years. He retired from law enforcement in 2005 after 26 years of service. After retirement Lance was employed as a security officer for ten years at Berlin Memorial Hospital. In 2007, Lance was Past Master of Berlin Masonic Lodge #38 and became an ordained minister for Pathways of Light in 2009. His loves were many – music, reading, discussing politics and the family farm, with his flock of sheep and German Shepherds. Lance was most proud that his son, Adam, represents the 6th generation to farm the family homestead.
He is survived by his wife, Julie; son, Adam (girlfriend, Ashley Ellerson); brothers, Edward (Sherry) Buchholtz Jr. and Curtis (Heidi) Buchholtz; sister, Carol (Terry) Lippert; sister-in-law, Nancy Buchholtz; and nieces, nephews and friends. Lance was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Evan Buchholtz.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 14, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin, and on Thursday one hour prior to the services. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, November 15, at 11:00 a.m., at Barbola Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in Wolf River Cemetery.
Through many discussions with Julie, he simply stated about his life, “I was just passing through.”
