Eugene Bednarek
Eugene Joseph Bednarek, age 89, of Berlin, died peacefully on Friday, March 15, 2013 at Patriot Place in Berlin. He was born April 5, 1923 in Cleveland, OH, the son of Isador and Bridget Drover Bednarek. He was a graduate of Green Lake High School and attended UW Madison Agriculture School. On September 3, 1949, he was united in marriage to Frances Piotrowski at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Berlin. Eugene and Frances cared for and raised 52 foster children in the course of their lifetime together. He loved to farm and did that most of his life. He first farmed south of Berlin with his father on the family farm and in later years he farmed with his brother Tom near Watertown. Eugene was also employed at Wilson Hurd and the Green Lake County Courthouse for a number of years. He enjoyed time at the Berlin Senior Center playing cards and was a member of Berlin Senior Singers. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Frances; two sons, Gary Bednarek and Stan (Sue) Bednarek, their son Brad; three precious grandchildren, Jessica, Hannah, and Desiree; a special niece, Deb Buelin; four sisters, Barbara Kurczek, Julie (Richard) Sobralski, Doris Howman, and Jane Werner; two brothers, David (Jane) and Francis Bednarek; many nieces and nephews. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Thomas. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 20, at 11:00 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church, the Rev. Jerome Maksvytis officiating. Inurnment will be in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Friends and relatives may call at Barbola Funeral Chapel on Wednesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
