John J. Burns

John J. Burns, age 67, of the Town of Marion, died peacefully at his home on Monday, June 18, 2012, with Paula holding his hand. John was born November 27, 1944 in Frederic, WI, the son of James and Betty Jones Burns. He was a 1963 graduate of Berlin High School. John served his country in the U.S. Army from 1963-1966. He returned to Berlin and worked at Kolpin Mfg. where he met Paula Meyer. They were married on July 8, 1967. John then worked as a mechanic for Johnson-Fortnum in Berlin for 38 years. In his leisure time, John loved to hunt. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, a member for over 50 years at the Berlin United Methodist Church, and served as the Church Lay Leader. He is survived by his wife, Paula; his mother, Betty Burns; sister-in-laws, Lori Burns and Delores Kropp; aunts, Barbara Spencer and Elinore Jones; nieces and nephews, Thomas Burns, Emily Burns, Dennis (Bev) Kropp, Debrah (Lyle) Nelson, and David (Nancy) Kropp; and he is further survived by great and great-great-nieces and nephews; many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father; and a brother, Seth Burns. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 22, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Berlin, the Rev. Aaron Alfred officiating. Interment will be in the Marion Cemetery in Waushara County. Friends and relatives may call on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin, and also at the church on Friday one hour prior to the service.
