Paul A. Splittgerber

Paul Arthur Splittgerber, age 76, of Berlin, died unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, July 18, 2023.

He was born September 26, 1946, in Berlin, WI, the son of Edward and Josephine Kapfhammer Splittgerber. Paul was class treasurer and graduated in 1964 from Berlin High School. He attended UW-Oshkosh, Fox Valley Technical College, Moraine Park Technical College and WI State Patrol Academy. On October 30, 1971, he was united in marriage to Nancy Randall at First English Lutheran Church in Oshkosh, Rev. Robert Herder officiated.

In his early years, Paul worked for JC Penney Co. in Berlin. In 1969, he joined the Berlin Police Department, where he faithfully served for almost 40 years, retiring as Senior Police Patrolman. Never sitting idle, Paul also worked for Boyd Ambulance Service and Oakwood Memorials. In 1972, he was a founding member of the Berlin Ambulance Service, attending the very first EMT training class. He continued that service for 34 years.

Donna R. Nickolaisen

Donna Rae Nickolaisen, age 83, of Berlin, died peacefully at home on Saturday, July 15, 2023.

She was born November 19, 1939, at home in Wautoma, WI, the daughter of Orris and Marjorie Bahn Gaylord. Donna was a 1957 graduate of Berlin High School. On July 1, 1967, she was united in marriage to Thomas Nickolaisen at Spring Lake United Methodist Church.

Donna worked in a variety of positions for Farmers & Merchants Bank for 48 yrs from 1957-2005. She retired as a cashier and held the position of secretary as a member of the Board of Directors. Donna was “grandma” to many of her coworkers’ children, having 18 at one time! She was a member of Berlin United Methodist Church, giving of her time serving on church council, funeral committee and a past member of the church choir. In her free time, Donna enjoyed traveling a lot.

Brooks M. Schultz

Brooks Michael Schultz, age 18, of Berlin, died as a result of a traffic accident on Friday, July 7, 2023.

He was born December 17, 2004, in Oshkosh, the son of Darrin and Melynda Eichstedt Schultz. Brooks was a 2023 graduate of Berlin High School.

To know Brooks, was to love Brooks. He could light up a room with his dimple smiles. He truly cared for others. He was a great son, grandson, friend, and brother to Brodie and Brynleigh. Brooks worked since he was 15, starting at Crossroads Market, Surface and Surroundings, and finally Kinas Excavating, where his goal was to become a heavy equipment operator. No doubt he would have. Brooks enjoyed participating in sports throughout his years in school.

Rev. Dale D. Boening

Rev. Dale David Boening, age 72, of Berlin, died peacefully on Friday, July 7, 2023, at ThedaCare Medical Center-Berlin.

He was born December 5, 1950, in Berlin, the son of Harold and Ruth Moldenhauer Boening. He was a 1969 graduate of Berlin High School. Rev. Dale was a 1973 graduate of University of Oshkosh, a 2003 graduate of Concordia Theological Seminary of Indiana, and was ordained March 30, 2003, in the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod.
