Clinton P. Werch

Clinton Paul Werch, age 82, of Eureka, died peacefully at home on Friday, May 15, 2020, with family by his side.

He was born to Paul and Madeline Page Werch on May 28, 1937, in Green Lake County. He grew up on the family farm in the town of Nepeuskun. Clinton graduated from Berlin High School in 1955 when fast cars and cruising the streets of Berlin was the thing to do. The skills he learned on the farm led to his lifelong passion of working on cars and his need for speed. His love for racing and fast cars was interrupted when the US Army drafted him in 1960. Before being deployed to Germany he married his High School sweetheart, Sandra Watkins, in 1960. He spent two years in Germany with Sandy in tow. They returned home in 1962 along with their first child, Jacquelin.

Clinton spent the next 40 years raising his family and working in the automotive service and repair industry. This included moving to Oshkosh and owning a Clark Gas Station in the mid 60s. He and Sandra had two boys, Paul and Matthew, during this time. He then acquired a Snap-On Tools franchise and moved his family to the Town of Van Dyne. In the early 1980s he started a career with U-Haul working on everything from small engines to diesel trucks. Clinton returned to the Berlin area in 1994 and married the love of his life, Dianna De Clue. He lived near his three married children which gave him the opportunity to spend time with them and watch his grandchildren grow into young adults. He selflessly gave his time to family and friends helping them with all their mechanical repair.

Clinton and Dianna enjoyed camping and fishing together where she always brought home more fish whether it be on the Fox River or ice-covered Lake Winnebago. He was a part owner of Thee Ol Hunting Shack where he hunted with his family and his three friends Gayle Bodoh, Dale Hoffmann and Ken Ottman for over 60 years. He really enjoyed snowmobiling with Dianna around Berlin and riding in the UP with his sons, Paul and Matt. Clint was a big part of his daughter, Jackie’s, horse farm fixing equipment and baling hay every year.

He is survived by his wife, Dianna; daughter, Jacquelin (Dan) Curtis; sons, Paul (Mary) Werch and Matthew (Tracy) Werch; 10 grandchildren, James (Stephanie) Curtis, Danyelle (Drew) Gabbert, Michael Werch, Matthew Curtis, Madeline (Kyle) Belville, Megan Werch, Jack Werch, Christopher Werch, Clair Werch and Grace Werch; three great-grandchildren, Henri, Cameron and Annie; brother, Lloyd Werch; and nieces, nephews and friends. Clint was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Amie Curtis; great-granddaughter, Harriet Mae; an infant sister; and his three canine companions, Digger, Hunter and Chester.

A private Christian service will be held at Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin, Rev. Neil Wilson officiating. Interment with military honors performed by Wells-Krause VFW Post #2925 will be at Nepeuskun Cemetery. Memorials will be directed to American Diabetes Association. The family wishes to thank Aurora At Home Hospice for the care they gave to Clinton and to Larsen-Winchester Lions Club for building his ramp.
