James L. Nickolaisen

James Lester Nickolaisen, age 81, of Berlin, died peacefully on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Berlin Memorial Hospital.

He was born February 10, 1934, in Berlin, the son of Lester and Isabel Dunn Nickolaisen. Jim was a 1952 graduate of Berlin High School. He served in the U. S. Army from 1954-1956. On August 24, 1957, he was united in marriage to Gerry Erdman, who preceded him in death on January 28, 1991. On February 14, 1992, he was united in marriage to Joan Thomas.

Jim worked for Speed Queen in Omro and Ripon for 38 years, mostly in supervision and retired in 1994. He enjoyed fishing in Eureka with the boys, camping with family, rabbit hunting with the beagles, and deer hunting and camping at the Polish Ponderosa in Adams County. Later on, he enjoyed motor-homing with Joan. Jim was a past member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, a member of the Wells-Krause VFW Post #2925 and Green Lake Deputy Sheriff’s Assoc. for about 25 years.

He is survived by his wife, Joan; son, Richard (Linda) Nickolaisen; granddaughter, Vickie (George) Bjore; step-children, Joan (Steve) Adams, Guy (Karen) Schiessl, Janet Schiessl, Ben (Nivia) Schiessl; Step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Donna Nickolaisen; Joan’s sisters and brothers; and other relatives and friends. James was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Gerry; son, Randy Nickolaisen; and brother, Thomas Nickolaisen.

Graveside Services will be held on Friday, August 7, 2015, at Oakwood Cemetery in Berlin with Military Honors being performed by Wells-Krause V. F. W. Post #2925. Friends and relatives are to gather at the gravesite at 10:00 a.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to Barbola Funeral Chapel of Berlin. Memorials may be directed to Green Lake Area Animal Shelter or the donor’s favorite charity. Online condolences may be sent to the family at barbolafc@yahoo.com.
