Evelyn Lochner

Evelyn Lochner, age 97, of the Township of Nepeuskun, was called by her Lord, Jesus, to enter her heavenly home on Monday, November 30, 2015.

Evelyn was born on the Morrison family farm on July 19, 1918. She has five brothers, and was the only daughter of William and Eunice Potter Morrison. She rode her pony to Green Meadow School and was a 1936 graduate of Berlin High School. She continued her education by completing her training at the Beauty Culture of Oshkosh. She worked in salons in Wautoma, Waupaca, Ripon and Markesan. It was there that she met the owner’s nephew, Albert Lochner, her future husband of 62+ years. Evelyn and Albert eloped to Iowa during a snow storm and were united in marriage on November 30, 1940.

After Albert’s Navy service in WWII, they began dairy and egg farming in the Township of Nepeuskun. The couple farmed for over a decade, raising five children. During this time, Evelyn worked the seasonal pea and corn packs for Green Giant Canning Company in Ripon. Later she began working full-time as a loan operator at Universal Fabric Company in Berlin. After their closure in the late 1960s, she began working her longest and most enjoyable job at Wilson-Hurd in Berlin, where she worked in the quality control department as an inspector until her retirement.

Evelyn was an active member of United Methodist Church in Eureka, assisting with Vacation Bible school, the outreach fellowship choir, Friendly Neighbors Homemakers’ Club and Nepeuskun Anti- Horse Thieves Association. She was also a joyful member of Berlin Senior Center, where she was one of the “Senior Singers”, bringing smiles and music to friends and shut-ins.

She had an active life from riding a hot-air balloon, a motorcycle, and a snowmobile to quiet times, curling up with her favorite book. She enjoyed watching/feeding the birds, gardening, needle crafts, oil painting, and collecting recipes. Evelyn loved to bake. Every Christmas season she baked dozens of different holiday cookies. She visited with friends and shut-ins, leaving a smile and a plate of festive treats behind. Evelyn loved to travel. She visited all fifty states, Canada, Mexico, and several countries of Western Europe. Above all, Evelyn loved to read.

She is survived by her children, Charlotte (Richard) Schram, Janis (Allan) Klubertanz, Jacilyn (Gary) Boening, Mark Lochner, and Lynal (Peter) Linsmayer; her grandchildren, Debbie Schram, Shari Zuelke, Krista Wilson, Ken (Heather) Schram, Spc. Nathan (Dawn) Frank, and Bill and Ryan Linsmayer; her great-grandchildren, Evan Ewald, Jay (Emily) Wilson, Rhonda Wilson, Ryan Frank, and Aurora Framnes; and great-great-granddaughter, little Cora. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, all of her brothers, Gordon (Joyce), William “Burr” (Dawn), Vernon, Roy (Gladys/Marion), and Lloyd (Rosemary/Jeanette) Morrison; all of her sisters and brothers-in-law, Andrew, Bob, and Roy Lochner, Helen (Leonard) Gain, Esther (Jerry) Jansen, and Marie (Jack) Gardner; her grandson-in-law, Paul Wilson; and her beloved friends, Eileen Bruss, Betty Porter, and Erna Page.

Visitation for Evelyn will be on Friday, December 4, at Eureka United Methodist Church beginning at 9:30 a.m. Funeral services and celebration of her life will be held at the church on Friday at 11:30a.m. with Pastor Anita Genrich officiating. Evelyn will be laid to rest at Nepeuskun Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Barbola Funeral Chapel of Berlin.
