Elaine P. Kafer

Elaine P. (Sternat) Kafer, age 86, of Berlin, WI, was called to be with the Lord on December 13, 2022, at Patriot Place in Berlin, WI. Dear mother of Kenneth J. (Ginger) Kafer of Waukesha, WI, Thomas F. Kafer of New Berlin, WI, Karolyn L. Kafer (Craig Sobocinski) of Waukesha, WI, and grandmother to Dakota Kafer of Waukesha, WI. She is further survived by her brother, James C. Sternat, of Berlin, WI; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lionel E. and Hilda A. (Lichtenberg) Sternat; and her brother, Robert F. Sternat.

Elaine was born on May 27, 1936, in Berlin, WI. She graduated from Berlin High School in 1954 and went on to obtain a degree in nursing from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Oshkosh, graduating in 1957. She married Kenneth G. Kafer in 1957, and worked at Mercy Hospital while in Oshkosh. She settled in New Berlin, WI, continuing to work as a RN and preschool teacher. After many years she returned to Berlin, working as a preschool teacher and lastly, as the Director of the Church Choir at Berlin United Methodist Church. She loved her church dearly and enjoyed visits from members of her church family.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, June 17, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at United Methodist Church in Berlin. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Larry Rieck officiating. Inurnment will be in Nepeuskun Cemetery. The family expresses their appreciation to the staff at Patriot Place for taking such good care of Elaine. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Elaine's name, may be directed to Berlin United Methodist Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin.
