Jean V. Gross

Jean Veronica Gross, age 88, of Berlin, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at American House in Berlin.

She was born September 23, 1930, in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of Thomas and Agnes Pennie McCloskey. Jean was a 1948 graduate of Olney High School in Philadelphia, PA. She attended St. Petersburg College in Florida & UW-Oshkosh. On July 11, 1950, she was united in marriage to Paul Gross at St. Joseph Church in Milwaukee. Jean worked for Florida Federal Bank in St. Petersburg, FL as a Sr. Supervisor in student loans and for Green Giant in Ripon.

Jean enjoyed volunteering at the Berlin Senior Center, drawing, painting, wood carving, and reading. She loved animals, trees, flowers and the outdoors. Most of all, Jean enjoyed helping others and making new friends. She was considerate and caring. When she gave, it was easy to see that it came straight from her heart, and she gave everyone around her the gift of a nicer world to live in.

She loved her children, Patricia, Barbara, Elizabeth, Thomas, and Veronica; her grandchildren, “CJ”, Sam, Matthew, Christopher, Nicole, and Katie, Ryan and Allison. Her immediate family also includes her dear friends and sisters-in-law, Tillie Brooks and Betty Gross-Flanigan; and many very special nieces and nephews from the McCloskey, Gross, and Imp families in Florida, North Carolina, Milwaukee and Berlin; and by her lifelong friend, Pat in Racine and all of their extended families. Most recently, Jean adopted the loving staff and residents of American House into her family. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Paul and her daughter, Barbara.

In keeping with Jean’s wishes, a small gathering of family and friends will take place later this spring. For those wishing to contribute, Jean would love for you to plant some flowers in her name or do something special for someone you care about and remember her fondly.
