Dr. Alonzo R. Gimenez

Dr. Alonzo Rudolfo Gimenez, age 89, of Berlin, died peacefully on Thursday, May 31, 2018, at ThedaCare Medical Center-Waupaca.

He was born October 10, 1928, in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas Virgin Islands, the son of Ulysses and Alma LaFontaine Gimenez. Dr. Gimenez was a 1946 graduate of Charlotte Amalie High School in St. Thomas. He received his B.S. degree from St. John’s University in 1950, his Doctorate degree from St. Louis University, School of Medicine in 1954 and served his residency at Milwaukee County General Hospital. Dr. Gimenez served his country in the U.S. Army and U. S. Army Reserves. On February 9, 1956, he was united in marriage to Ruth Liese in San Antonio, TX. He moved to Berlin to start his practice in 1965, joining Dr. David Sievers serving patients from their clinic on E. Marquette Street. Furthermore, Dr. Gimenez was an attending physician at Berlin Memorial Hospital. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Parish in Berlin.

Dr. Gimenez is survived by his wife, Ruth; children, Jan (Bill) Krebs, Rob (Joyce) Gimenez, Greg Gimenez, Mike Gimenez, Pat Gimenez, Karen Jari, Sharon Gimenez, Daniel (Grit) Gimenez, David (Carrie) Gimenez and Steven (Noel) Gimenez; 16 grandchildren, Kim, Harrison, Robert, Chris, Rusty, Jon, Jeanae, Benjamin, Amanda, Beth, Julia, Charlie, Jerrid, Carley, Katie and Hanna; several great-grandchildren; brothers, Ted Gimenez and John Gimenez; and sister, Pearl Humphrey. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Marc Gimenez.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 5, at 11:00 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Parish in Berlin, Father David Greenfield officiating. Military Honors will follow the Mass. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., at Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin. Inurnment will be in St. Michael Cemetery.
