Gary H. Gelhar

Gary H. Gelhar, age 71, of Berlin, died unexpectedly on Saturday, June 30, 2018.

He was born March 24, 1947, in Berlin, the son of Herbert and Ruby Lehr Gelhar. Gary was a 1965 graduate of Berlin High School and served in the National Guard. On September 7, 1968, he was united in marriage to Carol Simson at St. John Lutheran Church in Berlin.

Gary worked for Speed Queen for many years. He enjoyed gardening, spending time at his lake home, working on his ’57 Chevy and taking very good care of his wife. Gary was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and took great pride in their lawn care.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; two daughters, Brenda (Scott) Oppor and Lori (Rick) Livingston; one grandson and best friend, Cavin Oppor; two sisters, Bonnie (Donnie) Wegenke and Diana (Tom) Ursin; and brother-in-law, Eugene (Sue) Simson. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dale Gelhar.

Per Gary’s wishes, private graveside services will be held at Oakwood Cemetery, Rev. Paul Mundinger officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Barbola Funeral Chapel of Berlin. Memorials may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church lawn mowing fund.
