James W. Daly Jr.

James W. Daly Jr., age 77, of Onalaska, WI, left the planet on Friday, April 15, 2022, at Patriot Place in Berlin.

He was born February 10, 1945, in Chicago, IL, the son of James Sr. and Rita Close Daly. He attended Johnsberg High School in Johnsberg, IL.

Jim was a lifelong union man at Sheet Metal Worker’s Local 73, proud of his Irish ancestry and the achievements of his kids and grandkids. He’ll be remembered for his fierce devotion to his loved ones and for his humor: flipping the bird just as someone was snapping a picture, belting out a twangy Willie Nelson impression or a rendition of the song from the Hamm’s beer commercial, and keeping the beat with his shillelagh (Irish walking stick). Jim taught us through example to defend and care for those we love, to tend gardens and respect the earth, and to always keep a pot of coffee on. While he spent the later years of his life in Wisconsin, his heart was in Chicago. He will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Carole; three children, Tegan Daly, Gavin Daly and Megan Darnick; five grandchildren; two sisters, Harriet Nor and Theresa Waller; and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Patrick Daly; and two sisters, Susan Grossman and Mary Rita Feezel. Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer’s research.

For those on the other side, watch out, because here comes Daly with his shillelagh.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin. Anyone wishing to send a sympathy card to the family, please mail to James Daly, c/o Barbola Funeral Chapel, PO Box 201, Berlin, WI 54923.
