Glen Raymond Carlson

Glen Raymond Carlson, age 90, of Pine River, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Feb. 10, 2022, at Brown Wilcox Retirement Home in Berlin.

He was born January 5, 1932, in the town of Aniwa, Shawano County, WI, the son of Arnold and Elnora Slater Carlson. There, Glen finished formal school and his family moved to the Oshkosh area for employment. Shortly after, Glen and many of his family moved to the Pine River area. He met the love of his life, Jeanette Rogers, and the two entered into the sacred bonds of marriage on June 24, 1951, in Oshkosh, Wis. Glen and Jeanette had two daughters, Debra Jean Carlson and Glenda Mary Carlson.

Glen was a hard worker and enjoyed many jobs throughout his life: from hauling milk, farming his own land, and working and retiring from Speed Queen in Omro. In addition to working, Glen could always be found tinkering on small and big engines around his home and was known by many for being able to get almost anything running or working. It was truly a unique skill set that Glen had.

Additionally, Glen was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish, especially trout fishing. He did not let these skills pass with him as he taught his grandchildren numerous ways to get the big bucks and the big fish; especially the art of trout fishing. When his grandchildren thought they could outdo their grandfather or knew more than him, most generally, he proved otherwise. The smirk on his face when this happened plagued his grandchildren in a fun and spirited way. The look was priceless!

Many other beautiful things could be said about Glen, but what stands out the most is that he would do anything for his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and close friends. He even built his grandson a frame for a hunting shack out of an old trailer just months before his passing. Glen always cherished time with family and close friends and had such a jubilant personality that most everyone who met Glen was drawn to him. He was a member of Pine River Congregational Church.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette; grandchildren, Shane (Sarah) Nigbor, Christopher Rogers (Liz Barthel) and Christa (Peter) Brennan; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Dawson, Lincoln, Carolina, Westin, Micah, Ellie and Luca; sister-in-law, Marilyn “Joni” Bahr; nephews, Roger (Sheri) Bahr and Paul Bahr; special friends, Randy (Lori) Reise, and many beloved nephews, nieces, extended family and friends. Glen was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Debra Rogers and Glenda (Eugene) Nigbor; brothers, Arnold “Norman” Carlson, Leroy “Bud” Carlson, Dale Carlson and Gary Carlson; sister, Deloris “Tootie” McClelland; great-grandson, Asher Brennan; nieces, Medina Bahr and Sara Bahr Mayr; father and mother-in-law, Norman and Mildred Waite Rogers; brother-in-law, Eugene Bahr; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Clifford (Iris) Rogers.

The family will hold a private memorial gathering at a later date. In lieu of flowers or memorials, teach a new generation how to be responsible sportspersons and please keep Glen’s family and friends in your prayers. Arrangements have been entrusted to Barbola-Hempel Funeral Chapel in Berlin.
