Iris M. Carley
Iris Mae Carley, age 87, of Berlin, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at ThedaCare Medical Center-Berlin.
She was born August 31, 1934, in Beaufort, North Carolina, the daughter of Stephen and Dolly Chaplain Dudley. Iris was a 1952 graduate of Beaufort High School. On November 20, 1953, she was united in marriage to Lester Carley in Morehead City, North Carolina.
Iris worked as a nursing assistant for 35 years at Berlin Memorial Hospital. She stayed busy as a past President of Shead Island Cemetery Association and an active member of Eureka U.M.C. in the choir, Sunday School and youth groups. Iris loved expanding her knowledge through reading and music, and enjoyed walking her pets Monty, Sadi and Mo.
She is survived by her three sons, Keith Carley, Steven Carley and Dan Carley; one daughter, Aletha (Chris) Cook; nine grandchildren, Kevin (Daphne) Carley, Kenny (Karen) Carley, Kelly (Josh) Werth, Eric (Carey) Carley, Amy (Carlo) McCormick, Jason Carley, Bryon Kiernicki, Robert Kiernicki and Laura (Dan) Doudek; 19 great-grandchildren, Ramona, Ivy, Alivia, Logan, Mason, Eliana, Jordan, Kevin, Sam, Joshua, Bethany, Melanie, Lilly, Allisson, Brandon, Brooklyn, Gabriell, Kendall and Hayden; one great-great-grandchild, Nirvana; one sister, Sara Daniels; and one brother, Stephan Dudley Jr. Iris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester, on August 24, 2010; one sister, Connie Davis; three brothers, Edwin Dudley, Bruce Dudley and Matthew Dudley; one great-granddaughter, Hannah Carley; and two brothers-in-law, Sam Daniels and Bill Davis.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, January 14, 2022, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at W.E. United Methodist Church Eureka Campus. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will be in Shead Island Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin.
