Elaine M. Achterberg

Elaine M. Achterberg, age 92, of Berlin, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, February 19, 2022.

She was born April 12, 1929, in Oshkosh, WI, the daughter of Herbert W. and Sadie Diedrich Schultz. On June 24, 1950, she was united in marriage to Lyle Achterberg at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Oshkosh.

Elaine worked for over 40 years at Rippin’ Good Cookie Factory (Ripon Foods). She was a founding member of Rush Lake Polar Bears Snowmobile Club and a member of Nepeuskun Anti Horse Thieves Association, Waukau Flying Mane Horse Club and St. John Lutheran Church in Berlin. She was also a strong supporter of Lakeshore 4-H Club and a partner and co-founder of Lyle’s Little Tractors. She loved to embroider and specialized in holiday decorating.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Jerry) Ewald; sons, Leslie (June) Achterberg, Tim (Brenda) Achterberg and Dan (Gretel) Achterberg; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Herbert E. Schultz; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle, on May 13, 2015; and sister, Bernice Vonderloh; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Eunice (Victor) Haase, Lucille (Ed) Stahman and Diane Schultz.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 26, at 11:00 a.m., at St. John Lutheran Church in Berlin, Rev. Paul Mundinger officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 25, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin, and on Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
