Lyle H. Achterberg

Lyle H. Achterberg, age 85, of Berlin, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at his home.

He was born July 26, 1929, in Borth, the son of Arthur and Lucinda Schmude Achterberg. On June 24, 1950, he was united in marriage to Elaine Schultz at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Oshkosh.

Lyle was a dairy farmer in the Town of Rosendale before moving to Berlin. He worked for Griese & Ross and David White in Berlin until his retirement. He was a groundskeeper at Mascoutin in later years. He was a member of Nepeuskun Anti Horse Thieves Club, Rush Lake Polar Bears Snowmobile Club, Flying Mane Horse Club and St. John Lutheran Church. Lyle was an avid collector, restorer and shower of antique tractors. He was known for showing Lyle’s Little Tractors. Lyle loved to hunt and bowled for several years.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine; daughter, Linda (Jerry) Ewald; sons, Leslie (June) Achterberg, Tim (Brenda) Achterberg and Dan (Gretel) Achterberg; ten grandchildren; and nineteen great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Eunice and Lucille.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Berlin, the Rev. Bryan G. Lundquist officiating. Interment will be in Nepeuskun Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call on Friday, May 15, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin and on Saturday at the church one hour prior to the services.
