Gerald Herbert “Jerry” Buttke
Gerald Herbert “Jerry” Buttke, age 79, of Berlin, died peacefully on Monday, March 10, 2025, at Prairie Place Assisted Living in Ripon.
He was born February 3, 1946, in Berlin, WI, the son of Herbert and Regina Doro Buttke. Jerry was a 1964 graduate of Berlin High School and graduated from UW-Stout with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Education. On June 14, 1969, he was united in marriage to Sharon Lawler at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Berlin.
Many students will remember Jerry as the Industrial teacher at Berlin High School. He taught at the school for 10 years before working in sales and management at Alliant Energy for many years. He stayed active in both the Berlin and Omro communities, serving as Alderman for the City of Berlin for two terms and was on the Omro School Board. He was a member of Walleyes for Tomorrow and Berlin Conservation Club (33 years) and past member of Berlin Jaycees and Omro Kiwanis Club. Jerry volunteered as a Hunter Education Instructor for many years. He did maintenance work and used his industrial skills consulting on St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and Rectory. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Parish in Berlin.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; two sons, Jason (Jen) Buttke and John (Jody) Buttke; six grandchildren, Ethan (Hanna) Buttke, Amelia, Helena, Cole, Carson and Alyson Buttke; one sister, Lynn (Terry) Paulsen; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; and grandson, Merrick Buttke.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 17, at 11:00 a.m., at All Saints Catholic Parish in Berlin, with Monsignor James L. Gunn officiating. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 16, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin, and on Monday at All Saints Catholic Church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.
