Lyle W. Young
Lyle William Young, age 89, of Berlin, died peacefully at home on Sunday, August 15, 2021, surrounded by his family.
He was born February 20, 1932, at home in Berlin, WI, the son of Clifford and Anna Weiland Young. Lyle attended Rose Bud School in the Town of Aurora and was a 1950 graduate of Berlin High School. On September 26, 1953, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Mary Ellen Stahoviak at First Baptist Church in Berlin.
Lyle and Mary Ellen moved to the farm and began building his legacy in the Town of Aurora. He raised pigs and then cash cropped with his son, Bill, and two grandsons, CJ and Dylan. Lyle was the “chief tillage man” and “#1 shuttle driver” and worked until his dying day, never retiring. In his spare time, Lyle and Mary Ellen enjoyed traveling, snowmobiling, fishing and sturgeon spearing together. He was a member of the neighboring pheasant club, founder of the Old Place Hunting Club and was a supervisor in the Town of Aurora for over 20 years. Lyle took much pride in his family and his nicely-groomed lawn. He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Redgranite.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Mary Ellen; one son, William (Ann) Young; three daughters, twins, Cindy (Francis) Stobbe and Cathy Jezwinski, and Sue Hale (Mike Sullivan); 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one sister, Carol (Larry) Burns; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and his canine best friend, Mitzie. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant brother, John.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, September 4, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Redgranite. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Jennifer Czarnota officiating. Following the service, a Celebration of Life will continue at the VFW Hall in Berlin. Inurnment will be in Oakwood Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin.
