Alice E. Schubert

Alice Edna Schubert, age 84, of Berlin, died peacefully on Friday, July 8, 2016, one day before her 67th wedding anniversary at Copper Leaf Village in Ripon, surrounded by her family.

She was born February 28, 1932, in the Town of Marion, the daughter of William and Alma Fietz Wendlandt. On July 9, 1949, she was united in marriage to Walter “Bud” Schubert at Zion Lutheran Church in Neshkoro.

Alice was proud to be a “husband helper” and was known as the “shoe lady” at Second Time-Around Resale Shop in Berlin, where she volunteered for over forty years. She worked at Eden Bus Service, the Berlin Senior Center and many other jobs. Alice loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren plus working in the garden and tending to her flowers. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Ripon and did the altar flowers there for over 30 years and a member at St. John Lutheran Church in Berlin for many years.

She is survived by her husband, Walter “Bud”; son, Mark (Ricki) Schubert; daughter, Debra Schubert; five grandchildren, Tara Schubert, Kayla (Adam) Gilmour, Nikki (Dan) Best, Josh (Ashleigh) Schubert and Cody Schubert; eight great-grandchildren, Caitlyn, Tyler, Jaden, Mia, Jaxson and Dominic Schubert, Sawyer Gilmour and Connor Best; and sisters, Carol Petit and Shirley (Ray) Ottman. Alice was preceded in death by her parents; son, Matthew Schubert; granddaughter, Amanda Sue Schubert; three sisters, Clara Wendlandt, Betty St. Thomas and Dora Schalk; and brother, Lawrence Wendlandt.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Berlin, the Rev. Bryan G. Lundquist officiating. Interment will be in Welsh Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call on Tuesday, July 12, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin and on Wednesday at the church one hour prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church Bell Tower Fund.
