Craig W. C. Schmidt

Craig Walter Carl Schmidt, age 65, of Berlin, died unexpectedly on Monday, July 29, 2019, at home.

He was born August 31, 1953, in Sheboygan, the son of Christian “Chris” and LaVerne Thiele Schmidt. Craig was a 1971 graduate of Sheboygan North High School. He received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master’s of Business from UW-Whitewater.

Craig was the past President and CEO of Community Health Network from 1988 until his retirement in 2006. He was currently an Adjunct Professor at UW-Whitewater School of Business. Craig was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, the Board of Regents for Concordia University and served as President of the Chris Schmidt Memorial Foundation.

Craig and Glenda raised two sons, Gregory (Sarah) Hackbarth and Gerry (Andrea) Hackbarth. He is further survived by four grandchildren, Garrett, Jacob, Lillian and Paul; siblings, Denise Landkamer, Randy (Kathy) Schmidt and Kris Howley; nieces and nephews, Sarabecca (Costa), Jessica (Alexander), Michael (Kyla), Kristin (Kevin) and Kaylyn (special friend, Charlie); and two great-nephews, Casey and Julius. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, August 9, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at St. John Lutheran Church in Berlin. Memorial services will be held at the church at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Paul Mundinger officiating. Inurnment will be in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Sheboygan. Arrangements have been entrusted to Barbola Funeral Chapel of Berlin. Memorials may be directed to the Green Lake Area Animal Shelter.
