Lavern A. Pomplun

Lavern Arnold Pomplun, age 80, of Berlin, died peacefully on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Neenah.

He was born June 24, 1941, at home in the Township of Deerfield, WI, the son of Albert and Martha Groskreutz Pomplun. While at Wautoma High School, Lavern was selected to go to Trees for Tomorrow Camp at Eagle River to learn about forestry. He was a 1959 graduate. On October 27, 1962, he was united in marriage to Mary Frank at St. John Lutheran Church in Harrisville, WI.

Lavern owned a farm north of Berlin for 57 years, raising pigs, steers and crop farming (lots of hay!). His legacy was to instill a strong work ethic to his children and grandchildren. Along with farming, Lavern was a core assembler for over 40 years at the Berlin Foundry. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially deer and turkey hunting, and was fortunate to go on hunting trips to Montana and Wyoming. Camping and fishing were also favorite pastimes when he was able to take a break from farming. Lavern and Mary enjoyed making memories during three vacations in Bronson, MO. He also loved trying his luck playing cards. Lavern was a member of Old Timers, Whitetails Unlimited and Grace English Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; four children, Bonnie (David) Schenk, Gerald Pomplun, Brenda (Scott) Krueger and Jacalyn (Jeremie) Schmidt; nine grandchildren, Brandon (Lidra) Schenk, Adam Schenk (special friend, Alicia), Allison (Brandon) O’Brien, Emily Pomplun (fiancé, Michael), Alexis Pomplun (special friend, Nick), Elizabeth (Andrew) Wallner, Isaiah Krueger, Joseph Schmidt and Joanna Schmidt; six great-grandchildren, Channing and Grayson Schenk, Colton Schenk, Kinley Hill, and Brooklynn and Lincoln O’Brien; sister, Elizabeth Winkler; sister-in-law, Lucille Bartel; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
