Myrtle A. Angle

Myrtle Alena Kumbier Angle, age 98, of Omro, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Webster Manor in Omro.

She was born January 20, 1917, in Utica, NY, the daughter of Frank and Amalia Abraham Wagner. Her family moved to Oshkosh when she was seven years old. She received her education in Oshkosh Schools. As a teenager she worked as a maid for a wealthy family. In March 1937, she was united in marriage to Gilbert Kumbier at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church on Main Street in Oshkosh. They lived on a farm near Pickett, where the y raised five children.

Myrtle always had a big garden and canned food for family use during the winter. She was a very good cook and enjoyed making homemade bread and desserts, especially pies. She enjoyed sewing, making clothes for her children and to give as hand-made gifts to many people. Myrtle loved music and liked to dance to “old-time” music. While living on the farm she worked some summers at the Pickett Canning Factory. She raised cucumbers and sold them at a grading station in Waukau. Myrtle also worked some summers at E & E Drive-In in Oshkosh.

One of the hardest things she ever had to face was the death of her eleven year old son, Leonard, who was hit by a car while crossing the road. Myrtle and Gilbert were married for twenty-six years when Gilbert became sick and passed away in June 1963. For a time, Myrtle continued to run the farm while also working at Bethel Home. After a time she went to Pleasant Acres, now Parkside, where she worked as an aide for 21 years.

On May 11, 1972, she was united in marriage to Ray Angle at Calvary Lutheran Church in Oshkosh. They made their home in Berlin for many years. Ray passed away in December 2000. Myrtle continued to live in her home until February 2015.

Myrtle is survived by her children, Barbara Coe, Louise (Don) Cerney, Larry (Sally) Kumbier and Elly (Bud) Winter; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, among them, a special niece, Mary (Dennis) Clauss and a special nephew, Bob (Darlene) Kumbier; sister-in-law, Beverly Ruedinger; and brother-in-law, Irving Peterson. She was preceded in death by her son, Leonard; her 1st husband, Gilbert; her 2nd husband, Ray; son-in-law, Burton Coe; two sisters, Lenora (Roy) Jorgensen and Anita (Earl) Nimmer; and two brothers, Frank (Viola) Wagner and William (Irene) Wagner.
