Richard J. “Dick” Trochinski

Richard Joseph “Dick” Trochinski, age 79, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at ThedaCare Medical Center-Berlin.

He was born December 28, 1945, at Berlin Memorial Hospital, the son of Carl and Marcella Makurat Trochinski. Dick attended St Joseph Catholic School and was a 1964 graduate of Wautoma High School. In January 1966 he enlisted in the US Navy. When he returned from basic training in March, he took Judith Doro to Menomonie, Michigan, where they eloped on March 31, 1966.

Dick spent the next seven months in New York at the Brooklyn Naval Yards. When they came home on leave at Christmas, they were united in marriage on December 31, 1966, at St Michael Catholic Church in Berlin. He spent another 4 months in NY before being transferred to Charleston, SC, where he served at The Charleston Naval Yards and aboard the USS Hunley, which included a six-month deployment to Guam. In 1970, after his honorable discharge, they returned to Berlin where they would raise their two children, Dawn & Douglas.

Over the course of his life, he held positions at Green Giant, Realist, Berlin Foundry, Olson Drayline, and Oshkosh Truck. He also drove school bus for many years for Mascoutin Transportation until the time he was forced to retire due to his eyes. He loved deer hunting, bowling and most of all camping with family, friends and the Sunny Badgers Camper Club.

Dick was a Fourth Degree member of Fr. Fiss Council #1547 Knights of Columbus, served on the parish council at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and served for many years as a Green Lake County Supervisor. One of his most cherished memories was his Old Glory Honor Flight in 2019. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Parish in Berlin.

He is survived by his wife, Judy; daughter, Dawn (Bob) Huck; son, Doug (Dawn) Trochinski; grandsons, Nathaniel (Abby) Huck, Austin (Lillian) Trochinski and Alex (special friend, Emily) Drews; great-granddaughter, Ashlyn Huck; brother and sisters, Sharon Burk, Michael (Cookie) Trochinski, Kathy Herschberger, Karen Newell, Tom Trochinski, Kenny (Sandy) Trochinski, Susie (Terry) Elendt, Leon (Barb) Trochinski, Jeff (Julie) Trochinski, Debbie (Jim) Paugels, Mary Borland, Rosie (Shawn) Kowalewski, Danny (Donna) Trochinski Dennis (Debbie) Trochinski; and many nieces, nephews and cousins, including Patti Trochinski (his beloved caregiver) and his dear aunt, Lorraine Trochinski. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Maurice (Florence) Doro; brothers, Larry, infant Joseph and infant Steven Trochinski; sister-in-law, Gail Trochinski; and brothers-in-law, John Burk, Larry Herschberger and Ward Newell.

The family would like to thank the staff at ThedaCare Medical Center-Berlin, Juliet Manor and ThedaCare at Home Hospice for their care in the last few months as Dick endured many complications from his broken hip in October.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, February 7, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at All Saints Catholic Parish in Berlin. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Military honors will be performed by Wells-Krause VFW Post #2925 at All Saints Catholic Parish immediately following the mass. Inurnment will be in St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin. A memorial has been established.
