James A. Michaels, age 68 of Berlin, died unexpectedly Wednesday evening, December 14, 2011, as the result of an automobile accident in Waupaca County.
Jim was born June 15, 1943 in Berlin. He was the son of Glen and Mabel Jannusch Michaels. He was a 1961 graduate of Berlin High School, a 1965 graduate of UW-River Falls, and received a Master’s Degree in 1970 from South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. On June 12, 1965 he was united in marriage to Bonnie Butcher at the First Methodist Church in Berlin.
He was an Industrial Arts & Agriculture teacher for 8 years. He later worked 25 years at Berlin Foundry and for several years at National By-Products (Darling International). Jim was an avid motorcycle enthusiast. He was active in building and maintaining family genealogy. He had an interest in history (Civil War), domestic travels, and “creative tinkering”.
Jim is survived by his wife, Bonnie; son, Mark Michaels of New York, NY; daughter, Marci Michaels (Darren Thomas) of Oshkosh; brother, Bob Michaels of Madison; and sister, Jean (Dean) Bell-Kiesau of Sauk City, WI; sister-in-law, Jean Michaels of WI Rapids; niece and nephews, Steve, Brian, Jason, Michael, and Krista. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Gordon Michaels.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at Noon, at Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin, the Rev. Terry J. Reiser officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at Barbola Funeral Chapel.
