Joyce E. Hackney, age 88 formerly of Poy Sippi, died peacefully on Friday, February 3, 2012 at Preston Place in Redgranite under hospice care.
Joyce was born May 23, 1923 in the township of Aurora in Waushara County, WI. She was the daughter of Albert and Anna Marie Drew Evensen. She was a 1940 graduate of Berlin High School. On April 27, 1946 she was united in marriage to William G. Hackney in Berlin. She and her husband farmed in the town of Poy Sippi for many years. She resided at Preston place for the past 6 years.
She was first employed at Farmers & Merchants Bank after high school. Following her marriage
and the birth of 7 children, she became a book keeper at JC Penney Co. in Berlin, where she
worked for 23 years..
Joyce is survived by her five children, Karen McKenna of Green Bay, Kristin (James) Doll of Pine
River, William D. Hackney of King, James W. (Kimm Standke) Hackney of Redgranite, and John
(Lisa) Hackney of Wild Rose; 10 grandchildren, Scott, Jill, Rachel, Lauren, Tom, Kayla, Emily, Clay,
Lucas, and Lacy; a great-grandchild, Devan; a sister, Ruth Bulchuck of Sun City, AZ; and a
sister-in-law, Mary Krebs of Berlin. She was preceded in death by her husband on December 7,
2007; a daughter, Jane Colleen in 1951; an infant son, Thomas Evan in 1961; her parents; a sister,
Betty Sommerfeldt; and a brother, Robert Evensen.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 8 at 6:00 p.m. at Barbola Funeral Chapel, the
Rev. George Groves officiating. Interment will be in Welsh Cemetery in the Town of Aurora. The family
will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel. The
family extends their thanks to the staff at Preston Place for their loving care
