Allen Eric Cederholm, age 87, of Markesan, died peacefully on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Markesan Resident Home.
Allen was born March 16, 1924 in Berwyn, IL, the son of Nels and Alfrida Anderson Cederholm. Allen lived in Berwyn for 19 years. He graduated from J.S. Morton in Cicero. He was drafted by the U.S. Navy in 1943. After boot camp, Allen was sent overseas to the Pacific War Zone. He was assigned to a Hydrographic ship, the U.S.S. Summner. On this tour, 14 Islands were surveyed as well as 3 ports in China. After the war, he attended college under the G.I. Bill for two years. Allen went to work for the Austin Co., in mechanical and later purchasing. Next, he worked for Industrial Filter & Pump Co in Cicero as Chief Estimator and Data Processing Mgr. On May 15, 1954, he was united in marriage to Rita Marie Hons in Berwyn, IL. Allen & Rita purchased a home in Western Springs where they resided for 33 years. In later years they purchased a building lot by Green Lake, WI, and later built a home there. After retirement in 1989, Allen & Rita made their permanent residence in the Green Lake area. Allen had been a member of the Kiwanis Club in LaGrange, IL, and Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Green Lake, where he had served on the church council.
Allen is survived by his wife, Rita; one son Eric David Cederholm of Green Lake; nephews Fred, Clint (Mindy), Andy, Tim, & Chandler Cederholm; nieces Nancy Cederholm & Janet (Bill) Walsh; Special friends “Jinks” Meingast, Judy & Bob DeWar, Marge & Jerry Mundt, John & Gerry Puljung, Allen & Pat Wucker, Edward & Gilley Stoddard, Ken & Beth Zik, Greg & Julie Reilly, Art Hartwig, and the Mowder and Bazaro families. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Harry Cederholm and sister-in-law Lorraine Cederholm.
Mass of Christian Burial took place at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Western Springs, IL. A memorial Mass were held at Our Lady of the Lake in Green Lake at a later date. Interment will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Memorials in Allen’s name may be given to Cancer Research, or the American Lung Association. Arrangements have been entrusted to Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin
