Shirley May Hayes, age 72, died unexpectedly on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Appleton Medical Center.
She was born September 14, 1941 in Green Lake County, the daughter of Albert and Catherine Drolshagen Gallert. Shirley was a 1959 graduate of Berlin High School. On September 1, 1962, she was united in marriage to Richard Hayes at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Berlin.
Shirley worked at Realist and retired from Fox River Industries where she worked for many years. She was an avid reader and enjoyed swapping books with special friends. She delighted in watching birds and had an extensive elephant collection.
She is survived by her husband, Richard; three children, Patti (Dale) Herring of Berlin, Cathy (Tim)
Pischke of Oshkosh and Mike Hayes of Oshkosh; five grandchildren, Dustin and Dylan Herring and
Colton, Kassidy and Gracie May Hayes; brother, Ervin Gallert of Berlin; sister, Jeanette Gallert of
Berlin; sister-in-law, Judi Gallert of Berlin; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill (Donna) Hayes of
Oshkosh; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Pat Davey and Mary Wuske. She was
preceded in death by her parents; brother, Chuck Gallert; sister, Margaret Wara; and sister-in-law,
Linda Fox.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at 6:00 pm. at Barbola Funeral Chapel in
Berlin, the Rev. Jerome Maksvytis officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends and
relatives may call on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Barbola Funeral Chapel. Online
