Alvin George Gneiser, age 97, of Berlin, died peacefully on Monday, May 19, 2014 at Patriot Place in
Berlin. He joined his beloved wife of 65 years in eternal rest.
He was born September 12, 1916 in the Township of Brooklyn, the son of John and Margaret Eagen Gneiser. After his father’s death in 1918, he was brought up by his mother and step-father, George Gneiser on the family farm. Alvin attended Woodlawn School and Berlin High School. On November 25, 1948, he was married to Shirley Stapel. He was a dairy farmer in the Township of Berlin. Even
in his retirement he remained a farmer in his head and in his heart.
Alvin is survived by his two daughters, Cindy Kemnitz (James Packard) and Nancy (Bill) Clewien; five
grandchildren, Naomi (Kevin) Resop, Jeremy Kemnitz, Allie (Adam) Henke, Ben Clewien and Courtney
Clewien; two great-grandchildren, Logan & Jori Resop; sister, Louise Schmuhl; brother, Neil (Nancy)
Gneiser, and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley on April 15, 2014; by parents, John, George, and
Margaret; sisters-in-law, Sally, June, & Vennecia; and brothers-in-law, John, Elwyn & Dean.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Grace English Lutheran
Church, the Rev. Scott T. Piper officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Berlin. Friends
and relatives may call on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Barbola Funeral Chapel and on
Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church. Online condolences may be sent to the family
