Herbert Clayton Drecktrah, age 75, of Olathe, Kansas, formerly of Berlin, passed away on Friday,
November 15, 2013 at Olathe Medical Center after suffering a major stroke.
He was born February 17, 1938 in Berlin, the son of Wilbur “Badger” and Florence Cleveland
Drecktrah. He was a 1956 graduate of Berlin High School. On December 30, 1956, he was united in
marriage to the love of his life, Marie Beaman.
Herb was a successful manufacturer’s representative of men’s clothing, serving an eleven state
territory. He thoroughly enjoyed seeing the country while traveling in their motor home for 23 years.
Another passion was sailing his Catalina 30 on Lake Perry, and chartering sailboats in Florida. Herb
passed away working at his desk surrounded by computer monitors. He not only was a very proud
father and grandpa, he was also an avid Green Bay Packers fan. Herb was always asking questions
and interested in what his family and friends were doing. He was a friend to many and will be dearly
missed by all who knew and loved him!
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Marie; two daughters, Sharon (Mark) Miller of Chanute,
KS and Catherine Murphy of Gladstone, MI; one son, Randy (Vicki) Drecktrah of Kansas City, MO;
three grandchildren, Marcus, Morgan and Megan; two great-grandsons, Camden and Zander;
brother, Bill (Barbara) Drecktrah of Berlin and Avon Park, FL. He was preceded in death by his
parents and sister-in-law, Leah.
A memorial gathering was held Saturday, November 23, 2013 in Olathe, KS. Inurnment will be at
a later date in Oakwood Cemetery in Berlin. Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin is assisting with local
arrangements. The family asks in lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Olathe Special
Olympics.
