Rita Marie Cederholm, age 84, of Markesan, died peacefully on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at
Markesan Resident Home.
Rita was born October 23, 1928 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Anton and Mae Brychta Hons. On
May 15, 1954, she was united in marriage to Allen E. Cederholm at in Berwyn, IL.
She worked as a secretary at New York Life Insurance Co, and at St. John of the Cross Catholic
School. After retirement in 1989, she and Allen made their permanent residence in the Green Lake
area. Rita was an active member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Green Lake, a Charter
Member of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, on various church women’s clubs, and served as
Secretary/Treasurer of Western Springs United Way for seven years. In 1990, she became active
at Berlin Memorial Hospital as a volunteer in the surgical waiting room and assisted with escorting
patients around the hospital.
Rita is survived by her son, Eric D. Cederholm; nephews Fred, Clint (Mindy), Andy, Tim, and Chandler
Cederholm; nieces Nancy Cederholm and Janet (Bill) Walsh; special friends “Jinks” Meingast, Judy
and Bob DeWar, Marge and Jerry Mundt, John and Gerry Puljung, Allen and Pay Wucker, Edward and
Gilley Stoddard, Ken and Beth Zik, Greg and Julie Reilly, Art Hartwig, and the Mowder and Bazaro
families. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Allen Cederholm, on June 4, 2011;
brother-in-law, Harry Cederholm; and sister-in-law, Lorraine Cederholm.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Western Springs,
IL. Interment will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, IL. A Memorial Mass will be held
at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Green Lake at a later date. Arrangements have been
entrusted to Barbola Funeral Chapel of Berlin.
