Douglas H. "Goofy" Smith

 

Douglas H.”Goofy” Smith, age 54, of the Township of Aurora, died on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh.

 

Doug was born March 30, 1956 in Berlin, the son of Charles and Mary Ann Kettlewell Smith.  He was a 1974 graduate of Berlin High School.  On May 8, 1993, he was united in marriage to Judith Behnke Lind.

 

He was a 26 year member of the Speed Queen family and was an active member of Local 1327 United Steelworkers Union.  He was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Berlin.

 

Goofy was a unique individual who was loved by all who knew him.  He had a passion for all sports, especially football.  He loved to fish and play poker.  He was an avid biker.  Tyler Schroeder, his close friend, will be riding Goofy’s bike and leading the funeral procession.  Among the many memories, the “Goofy straw” seems to stand out most of all.

 

Goofy is survived by his wife, Judith; a step-son, Jonathan Lind; step-daughter Jessica (Jason) Stini; his mother, Mert Smith; parents-in-law Arthur and Rosemary Behnke; sisters and brothers-in-law Jody (Michael) Johnson; Rick (Jeanne) Behnke; nephew Ethan Johnson; niece Rachel (Stuart) Jacobs; and favorite cousin Kathy (Allen) Silverthorn. 

 

He was preceded in death by his father; grandparents Hugh and Mabel Smith, Edward and Vera Kettlewell; and step-grandmother Anna Smith.
