Harold Glenn “Pete” Reitz

Harold Glenn “Pete” Reitz, age 83, of Eureka, died peacefully on Friday, March 2, 2012, at Parkview Care Center in Oshkosh, with his family by his side

 

Pete was born December 29, 1928 in Eureka, WI, the son of Elmer H. and Edith Irene Blair Reitz.  He was a graduate of Omro High School.  On October 7, 1950 he was united in marriage to Nancy Lou Kettlewell at St. John Lutheran Church in Berlin.  Pete was a machinist at Speed Queen in Ripon for many years.  He was a member of the Berlin United Methodist Church, and the Ripon National Guard. Baseball was Pete’s lifelong passion. He played baseball in his earlier years, and he coached youth and adult baseball. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.  He loved to hunt, and he enjoyed playing cards and socializing with his friends in Eureka and Borth.  Pete was a very giving and generous father and grandfather without ever expecting anything in return.  He watched and supported his grandchildren in all of their activities.  He adored all eight of his little great-grandchildren.

 

Surviving are his wife, Nancy; one son David (Jean) Reitz of Berlin; two daughters Cathy (Allen) Silverthorn of Omro, and Monica Reitz of Eureka; six grandchildren Jessica (Todd) Gilson of Winneconne, Shannon (Ryan) Besaw, Sarah (Ben) Lang, and Joshua Silverthorn all of Omro, Ryan Reitz of Berlin and Andy Reitz of Green Bay; eight great-grandchildren Ellie, Adelyn, & Gracelyn Gilson, Kaden, Parker, & Grant Besaw, Makenna & Maeley Lang; sister-in-law Mary Smith of Berlin; brother-in-law Richard Craig of Omro; nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Inez Craig; Nancy’s parents, Edward & Vera Kettlewell; brother-in-law Charles Smith; and nephews Daryl Craig & Doug Smith.

 

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Berlin, the Rev. Aaron Alfred officiating.  Interment will be in Welsh Cemetery in the Town of Aurora.  Friends and relatives may call on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Berlin.
