Louis "Lou" A. Reading

    Louis “Lou” A. Reading, age 86, of Green Lake, died peacefully on Sunday morning, July 31, 2011 at his home in Green Lake.

     

    Lou was born August 26, 1924 in Kirkwood, MO.  He was the son of Elmer and Blanche Sedtelget Reading.  Lou graduated from Pious XI High School in Milwaukee and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Marquette University.  Lou served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Pacific Theatre from 1944-1946.  On September 13, 1947 he was united in marriage to Janice Fischer until she passed away on August 19, 1989.  He later was united in marriage to Bernice Bornkamp-Hurley on July 14, 1990. 

He was a food broker, working 31 years for A&P food stores, covering the Eastern half of the nation. 

Lou then worked 14 years for Sysco Foods and later for Honee Bear Canning Company in MI until he

was 81 years old.  He was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.

 

He is survived by his wife, Bernice; four sons, Doug (Pam) Reading of Milwaukee, Don (Suzy) Reading

of MN, Charles Reading of Ripon, and Rich Reading of Green Lake; two grandsons, Michael & Nick;

three sisters, Barbara Hartnett of Brookfield, Rita Lofy of Brookfield, and Louise MacPhetridge of Door

County; step children, Keith Hurley and Kathy Paris; step grandson, Chuck (Christine) Hurley; step

granddaughter, Liz Flores; step great-grandchildren, J. J., Connor, Emilie, Fisher, Brianna, and T. J.  He

was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Janice; and two sisters, Eileen Gerlach and Marie

Condron.

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake

Catholic Church in Green Lake, the Rev. Philip Krogman officiating.  Interment will be in St. Patrick

Cemetery in the Town of Ripon. The family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday, August 2nd

from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin, with a Prayer Service to be held at

4:00 p.m.  There will also be visitation Wednesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church. 

Memorials may be directed to Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, St. Agnes Hospice, or Mother

Theresa Ministries.
