Irene E. Moldenhauer

Irene E. Moldenhauer, age 99, a resident of the American House in Berlin, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 9, 2011.

She was born June 2, 1911 in the Town of Warren in Waushara County, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Frank and Anna Zietlow Brechlin.  She attended Clover View and Victory Schools and was a 1928 graduate of Berlin High School.  She graduated from Green Lake County Normal in 1929.  On June 11, 1932, she was united in marriage to Alvin Fredric Moldenhauer at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairburn.

 

She taught school for three years at Clover View and one year at Victory.  She and her husband farmed for years.  Irene was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Berlin and was active in Ladies Aid, as well as the Woodlawn Homemakers.  She was the secretary for Bush Cemetery for 25 years.  Irene enjoyed handiwork, knitting and sewing, creating many items for her family.

 

Irene is survived by her son, Bill (Donna) Moldenhauer of Berlin; two grandchildren, Dan (Shawn) Moldenhauer of Stevens Point, and Becky (Kris) Engebretson of Green Bay; and four great grandchildren, Kyle and Rachel Engebretson, Zachery Moldenhauer, and Jordan Dobbe.  She was preceded in death by her husband Alvin in 1979; a son, Douglas Moldenhauer; her parents; and a sister, Runette Alf.

 

Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 12 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Berlin, the Rev. Bryan G. Lundquist officiating.  Interment followed in Bush Cemetery in the Town of Berlin. Arrangements have been entrusted to Barbola Funeral Chapel of Berlin.
