James M. Roberts

    James McKay Roberts, age 77, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 surrounded by his family.

     

    He was born September 17, 1936 in Richmond, VA, the son of Ralph and Anne Fleshood Roberts. James was a graduate of Blackstone High School and attended the University of Richmond. He served in the National Guard in Virginia from 1958-1964. In 1965, he was united in marriage to

    Constance Neale, who preceded him in death in July 1998. In 1985, he was united in marriage to Janice Ware, who preceded him in death on November 2001.

    James worked as an Electronic Technician at Avec Electronics, EA Holsten and Henrico County Public

    School. He was a member of Parham Road Baptist Church choir, NRA, Parents without Partners and

    the Humane Society. James enjoyed fishing and camping.

     

    He is survived by his two sons, Timothy (Judith) Roberts and James B. (Jennifer) Roberts; a

    daughter, Nancy Jenkins (John Tyler); seven grandchildren, Denali and McKayla Roberts, Timo and

    Ralph Roberts, and Sean, Ryan (Amber) and Curtis Jenkins; a great-grandson, Gavin Jenkins; a

    brother, Ralph (Susan) Roberts Jr.; sweetheart and friend, Mary Bartels; and little buddy, Victor. He

    was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; and companion of ten years, Violet Elliot.

     

    He is remembered as a caring father, grandfather, husband and friend. His laughter, his joyful

    presence and his gentle loving nature with family, friends and pets will be remembered and missed.

     

    Funeral services will be held Friday, August 15, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin,

    the Rev. Casey Getz officiating. Friends and relatives may call on Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

    at Barbola Funeral Chapel. Further services will be in held in Virginia. The family prefers memorials

    be directed to Berlin Senior Center or River Shores Evangelical Church. The family is grateful for all

    the care and support from TLC Home Health Care, Agnesian Hospice Hope, CHN Home Health Care,

    Deb Wilcox, Dr. Robert Geller and the nursing staff. Arrangements have been entrusted to Barbola
