Walter J. “Bud” Schubert

Walter J. “Bud” Schubert, age 91, of Berlin, died peacefully on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at Pleasant Park Place in Ripon.

He was born December 12, 1925, in Richford Township in Waushara County, the son of Julius and Ella Pekowsky Schubert. Bud served his country in the U.S. Army. On July 9, 1949, he was united in marriage to Alice E. Wendlandt at Zion Lutheran Church in Neshkoro. Alice and Bud enjoyed 66 years and one day short of 67 years together.

Bud worked at Johnson Fortnum, Wick Excavating, Clark Gas Station, Lawent Iron & Metal, Green Lake Co. Highway Dept. and was the Owner/Operator of Schubert & Sons Excavating. He was a member of American Legion Post #163 of Dakota-Richford, past member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Ripon for over 40 years and currently St. John Lutheran Church in Berlin.

He is survived by his son, Mark (Ricki) Schubert; daughter, Debra Schubert; five grandchildren, Tara Schubert, Kayla (Adam) Gilmour, Nikki (Dan) Best, Josh (Ashleigh) Schubert and Cody Schubert (significant other, Amy); and eleven great-grandchildren, Caitlyn, Tyler, Jaden, Mia, Jaxson, Dominic, Ethan and Pyper Schubert, Sawyer and Silas Gilmour and Connor Best. Bud was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice on July 8, 2016; son, Matthew Schubert; granddaughter, Amanda Sue Schubert; brother, Darwin Schubert; and sisters, Sadie Murkley, Lillian Mahaffey and Betty “Pootsie” Jacobson.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin and on Thursday at the church one hour prior to the service. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 17, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Berlin, the Rev. Bryan Fritsch officiating. Interment will be in Welsh Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
