Harry Nimmer Jr.

Harry Nimmer Jr., age 90, of Berlin, died peacefully at home on Sunday, September 24, 2023.

He was born May 14, 1933, in Oshkosh, WI, the son of Harry Sr. and Adela Luebke Nimmer. On August 20, 1976, he was united in marriage to Gladys Mae Quimby at St. John Lutheran Church in Berlin. Harry Served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and was stationed in Korea for over a year.

Harry worked for the Winnebago County Highway Dept for 21 years. He farmed, and later worked for Leach Mfg. Co in Oshkosh. Harry was a talented carpenter who built homes, furniture and special clocks. He was an avid gun collector who enjoyed traveling, camping, hunting and gardening. Harry played a mean trumpet in area polka bands including the Polka Chips, Bradley Truckers and Mel Albright Orchestra. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Berlin.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys; daughter, Charlene Arendt; granddaughter, April Maki and her husband, Matt, who was a special grandson-in-law; sisters, Lorraine Kargus and Jeanette Leeman; brother, Robert Nimmer; sister-in-law, Pearl Erdmann; brothers-in-law, Patrick Quimby and Daniel Quimby; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Harry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Earl Nimmer; sister, Erma; twin sisters, Laverne Zemke and Fern Spanbauer; and brother, Carlton Nimmer.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 4, at 11:00 a.m., at St. John Lutheran Church in Berlin, Rev. Robert Busse officiating. Interment with military honors performed by Wells-Krause VFW Post #2925 will be in Welsh Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 3, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin, and on Wednesday at the church one hour prior to the services. Memorials may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church in Berlin or American Cancer Society.
