Julie A. Hess

Julie Ann Hess, age 65, of Berlin, died peacefully on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at University Hospital in Madison.

She was born January 23, 1959, in Berlin, WI, the daughter of Edward Sr. and Betty Zietlow Wilke. Julie was a 1977 graduate of Berlin High School. On May 3, 1986, she was united in marriage to Michael Hess at Grace English Lutheran Church in Berlin.

Julie worked for Berlin Memorial Hospital as a dietary supervisor. She was an avid gardener, spending her time landscaping with a deft hand and growing her flowers with a green thumb. She enjoyed quality time spent with her family. A favorite place of hers to unwind at was a lovely cabin at Fence Lake. She was both a talented baker and cook. Julie enjoyed spending time with and caring for Walter, Waylon, and Cayson. She was a former member of Grace English Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school and VBS. Julie was currently a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Berlin.

She is survived by her husband, Michael; son, Preston; daughter, Brooke; two sisters, Gail (Joe) Cismoski and Carol (Bill) Krueger; two brothers, Edward (Beth) Wilke Jr. and Jim (Andrea) Wilke; and many step-siblings, nieces, nephews and friends. Julie was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, March 5, at 11:00 a.m., at St. John Lutheran Church in Berlin, with Rev. David Hintz officiating. Inurnment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, March 4, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin, and on Tuesday at the church one hour prior to the services.
